LEXICAL REMARKS: ISTRO-ROMANIAN TERMS OF LATIN ORIGIN IN ANIMAL DENOMINATION (II)

Summary/Abstract: The present study investigates the Istro-Romanian terms of Latin origin in the lexical-semantic area of animals (the underclass of wild animals). An overview of these terms recording in the literature dented to Istro-Romanian lexis reveals their highly vulnerable and outdated character in the general vocabulary of this variety. The scarce and limited evidence of some of these words is justified by the peripheral nature of this lexical-semantic class and by the powerful competition with Croatian borrowings which tend to replace them.
