Summary/Abstract: A great awareness of interest in cultural content of the foreign language curriculum has grown in recent years. Intercultural competence increases students’ understanding and empathy for different cultures. In today’s multilingual and multicultural societies it may guarantee a peaceful coexistence. It may be especially vital for such distant cultures as Polish and African. Teaching of African languages should not only concentrate on communicative competence of the students but on developing their intecultural learning as well. This article examines some African language textbooks and their cultural content. It is also hoped that it will stimulate a discussion on the role of intercultural communicative competence in the African language teaching in Poland.
