Pro-environmental behavior and the activity of local communities in the areas of tourism reception of the Podlaskie Voivodeship

Summary/Abstract: The local community plays an important role in the development of tourism. It is, inter alia, a „consumer” of the local environmental resources. The behaviour of the local communities and the economic activity conducted by them have a significant impact on the condition and protection of natural and cultural values of tourist reception areas. The aim of the article is to analyse the environmental behaviour and activity of the inhabitants of the tourist reception areas in the Podlaskie voivodship (environmentally valuable areas) aiming to protect the environment and their place of residence. The study primarily sought to answer the following questions: whether the ecological criteria have an impact on making everyday purchases, whether and what actions are undertaken by the residents to protect the environment and their place of residence, whether residents support the efforts to protect the environment in the tourism sector in their municipalities?
