Assessment of Ecological Aspects of Tourism Development in the Opinion of Podlaskie Province Residents

Summary/Abstract: Between tourism and the natural environment interactions occur. The environment is an essential basis for the tourism development, tourism benefits from its advantages, but also it has a significant influence, both positive and negative. Therefore, a major challenge of modern development, especially in the areas most valuable in terms of natural environment, is the search for such forms of tourism development that will minimise the negative impact of tourism on the natural environment. One such challenge is the sustainable development of tourist reception. This article aims to analyse the impact of tourism on the natural environment (their causes and effects) carried out on the basis of desk research and the perception evaluation of these effects by the inhabitants of the tourist destination areas, is based on a primary research. A survey was conducted in 2010-11 by direct standardised interview among Podlaskie Province inhabitants
