Summary/Abstract: The ancient Greeks called hermeneia a reception, a translation of the mark. Awareness of the Greeks was reflected in their mythology, in which the god Hermes was made responsible for the translation of God’s eternal ideas into the content of a human life. With time, the art of understanding a language took on a scientific nature and became called hermeneutics. It found application in the field of humanities which study the human being. From the Greek language hermeneuein means to explain the meaning of expressions, help in understanding; thus hermeneia in turn means interpretation, and explanation. Hermeneutics is the study of the art of interpreting texts, the science of interpretation of the text and understanding of the spiritual quality of the object; it is also a method of interpretation. Hermeneutics is based on the ontological assumption, according to which the human being is endless understanding and interpretation, and a language defines the human experience. A person and their conduct are treated on its basis as a meaning and text structure. The aim of hermeneutics is to understand, describe and interpret human experiences as a text included in the historical and social context. Understanding of this kind is possible by mean of the researcher’s reference to the subjective interpretation of life or some of its aspects, presented by a man in his own language. The paper is done to attempt to answer the questions: What opportunities does the use of hermeneutics in pedagogical research provide?, What threats may occur in connection with the use of hermeneutical method?
