Summary/Abstract: This paper is a contribution to the clarification of the lexis of the medieval Bosnian texts of gospels and to the internal relation between Bosnian gospels. The paper was focused on a close branch of gospels – the Čajniče Gospel and the Vrutok Gospel, which are part of a larger group, together with two other gospels – the Gospel of Pripković and the Gospel of Sophia. Lexical differences are a trustworthy indicator of the origin of the template from which the text of the gospel was copied. The analysis of lexis of Čajniče Gospel and Vrutočko Gospel showed a possible relation of the Čajniče Gospel to the writing traditions of Bulgarian clerks. Namely, Čajniče handwriting shows an agreement with Banički handwriting, a handwriting of Bulgarian origin, which we see from Mt. 7:29 (Banički’s: bukarie 7:29). This is not the same word as in other Bosnian, or Serbian gospels. These observations guide us to the assumption that one template of the Čajniče Gospel originates from Bulgarian territory. Čajniče handwriting in the Gospel of Matthew contains examples which testify of its close relation to the Gospel of Mary, while in the same time it is opposite to other old Slavonic canonical gospels. This could indicate that the Čajniče handwriting had a predecessor in a handwriting which contains a stronger relation to the Gospel of Mary than the other gospels: Mt. 9:12 baêli in Čajn., while vrača in Vrut., Mar., Ass., Savv., Mir., Kop., Pripk., Hval., as in the Bulgarian Banički Gospel. The lexeme balii is a version which is typical for the Gospel of Mary; it appears in the verses Mk 2:17 and Mk. 5:26 or Lk. 4:23 of the Gospel of Mary, while in all other canonical gospels it occurs as the lexeme vračь. Mt. 8:28 o t žali appears in Čajn., together with the Mar., while it appears as ot grobь in Vrut., Dan., Nik., Kop., and in other old Slavonic canonical gospels – Ass., Zogr., Savv. The insight in the lexis of the two Bosnian gospels proposes the conclusion that they are, probably, a result of different templates which the Gospel of Matthew was copied from.
