Summary/Abstract: Metropolitan Platon (1737-1812) was one of the most important ecclesiastical figures in Russia of the second half of the eighteenth century. He was very close to the imperial throne. He was a religion teacher of the prince Paul, a son of the empress Catherine II, then a tutor and confessor of his wife Wilhelmina/ /Natalia and then of his new wife Sophia/Maria. He assisted in the ceremony of coronation of Paul I and then he conducted the coronation ceremony of lexander I. He was also a member of the Synod, the highest ecclesiastical body in the Russian church.
