Summary/Abstract: The article’s aim is to attempt to answer the question whether Franjo Ksaver Pejačević (1707–1781) has written a paper on Bulgarian history and if so – has this been preserved or lost, where is it today and when did the intelligent Jesuit, theologian and originally a Bulgarian from Chiprovci, created that paper. Based on the analysis of three volumes of manuscripts, titled Excerpta historica historiam Slavorum meridionalium concernentia, P. Danova is able to give an affirmative answer to that controversy question. The “History of the Bulgarians” in question, or more precisely, “History of the Bulgarian rulers”, is part of volume two of the manuscript. Apart from that in all three volumes hints about a fantastic genealogy of the Knežević family are to be found, whose author is a person from the close circle of friends of the Pejačević or someone from the Knežević- Pejačević family. The theory about a “History of the Bulgarians” in the “Excerpta historica” manuscript is proved by arguments from the codicology, the structure and contents of the text, as well as by comparisons to the contents of the published “History of Serbia” and some of the common for the two historical texts sources. According to Danova it is possible that part of the historical notes of Pejačević concerning the history of the Bulgarian rulers have been taken during 1758.
