Summary/Abstract: Within the evolution of the hydrographic network there are two major stages accountable for the destructuring of the old water streams and the subsequent hydrographic reshaping through captation phenomena: the pre-Sarmatian stage and the post-Pannonian stage. Prior to the initiation of the Neogene (Badenian) volcanism, the relief of the North-Eastern Metalliferous Mountains was characterized by the predomination of the Paleogene and Lower Miocene sculptural forms, finalized under the action of the shaping processes. In this context, the Paleogene morphohydrographic environment, due to the plicative and Laramian disjunctive dislocations (tectonic folding, faulting and fracturing) resulted in the deepening of the rivers and the formation of hydrographic routes in accordance with the orographic configuration, regional base levels and lithostructural discontinuities. The hydrographic reshaping processes during the Miocene have led to the creation of transversal (partial or full) valleys, which by epigenesis and antecedence have strongly fragmented and reshaped the relief of the North-Eastern Metalliferous Mountains, with strong interconditioning relationships with the formation process of the volcanic morphostructures.
