Life and death in light of tombstone inscriptions in Orthodox necropolises in eastern Lublin region

Summary/Abstract: The analyzed inscriptions in the eastern Lublin region enable reconstruction of selected essential aspects of the worldly life of the deceased. On the basis of gravestone inscriptions in the Orthodox cementeries in the Lublin region the author tries to reconstruct the ways of perceiving life and death, reflected in the inscriptions. Many inscriptions reflect Christian beliefs about eternal life and resurrection; they describe death as a stage of waiting for as sleeping, rest, and as silence.
