The list of related topics includes the mythology of illness and death, a strong emphasis on the body/flesh, similar idiom, comparable concepts of “ecstatic identity,” the philosophy of representation based upon the artificiality of existence, masochism, irony, oneirism, common “spaces of myth” and geopoetics. The main aim of the article is to place the writing of Schulz and Blecherin the context of Central European modernism and describe the work of these writers in terms of the so-called “critical modernity” (a term coined by Michał Paweł Markowski).
