Summary/Abstract: Oral literature is deeply enrolles into the culture of every nation, as well as it is the longest type of literature that is as old as the civilization itself. In the history of literature, most attention is payed to oral poetry, however, the worth of oral prose is immesurable. The work includes the historical stories which are connected to the area of Široki Brijeg. They represent a reflection of cultures and civilizations that have lived on this land or influenced it. The work is divided into two parts. In the first part, the author records oral traditions associated with the ancient Greeks, who are known for their high level of cultural heritage and therefore they gain a place in the oral literature on the ground Hrecegovine. Oral traditions about ancient Greeks talk about their lives and the disappearance from this region. The second part refers to the ancient Illyrians topic in which the central role belongs to Queen Teuta, Agron’s wife. Oral literary heritage enables a people to enrich their lives and at the same time preserve the pages of history that help to explain national identity and culture.
