Summary/Abstract: Oral traditions are a special kind of story whose main feature is the belief in the truth of its content. The paper describes and interprets the levels at which the etiological tales were made. The central area of this paper deals with the classification and analysis of already published and collected etiological tales with the aim of generating a general picture of the tales and their basic characteristics. The aim of the work is to emphasize the importance of rich oral and literary heritage, which is an important component of intangible cultural heritage. By gathering and writing the oral traditions, an important segment of the intangible cultural heritage will be preserved. They are unique symbol of cultural and national identity. The most frequently represented etiological tales were created on the historical level, especially in relation to the Illyrian period and the Ottoman occupation of these areas, mythological, demonological, eschatological level and everyday talkings.
