Summary/Abstract: Karl Barth’s theology is less familiar in the Eastern setting due to the doctrine differences between the two trends, as well as linguistic and terminology differences. However, when reading the books of the famous Swiss theologian, we may ask ourselves whether we possess free will or not. What is actually free will? Can we, by chance, lose it or not use it (properly)? Who grants us responsibility, and what is responsibility, ultimately? The text herein tries to offer some convincing answers to these questions, on the one hand, starting from Karl Barth’s thinking, performing a critical Orthodox research on their thoughts, and on the other hand, carefully analyzing the richness of patriotic thinking, startling upon special tones related to responsibility and free will, tones that, unfortunately, are less known, nowadays.
