Description as Narrated Perception in Ivo Ćipiko’s Novel "Za kruhom" ["In Search of Bread"]

Summary/Abstract: This paper aims to display the importance of the new discoveries of postclassic (primarily cognitive) narratology for the research of Serbian Modernistfiction, and, by that means, for the research of literature in general. We startout (in accordance with the Theory of mind) from the problem of representingthought in the narrative, in order to integrate narrated perception into a morebroadly established system as well as possible, as the key question of this study.Subsequently, the paper explains the role of internal focalisation as a signal of themimetism’s destabilization in Ivo Ćipiko’s novel "Za kruhom" ["In Search of Bread"], expressed mainly through the device of narrated perception. Thus the description’s function in the examined text gains an entirely new dimension – it is no longer just the reflection of the real surroundings, it serves to map an individual consciousness.
