Summary/Abstract: This work is dedicated to the theoretical framework, different understandings in structuralist, poststructuralist, semiotic and cognitive approach. The review includes framework theories of Aristotel, Y. Lotman, B. Tomashevsky, V. Shklovsky, J. Culler, L. Aragon, G. Genette, but also S. Milosavljević Milić, M. Vinaver Ković, and M. Lompar. These are followed by more recent studies, which have supplemented a morphological and semiotic understanding of the framework by studying the framework as a cognitive phenomenon. The basis has been given by cognitive linguistics and “framework analysis”, and the studies of W. Wolf, M. Fludernic and D. Herman are the key to the theory of literature. The edge signals of framework activation singled out in this work are the incipit and explicit. The explanation of incipit relies on the interpretation of the Aragon theory by E. Beguin, while studies of V. Shklovsky, B. Eichenbaum, B. Tomashevsky, J. Culler, added by post-classical narratological research are used to explain the explicit. This review attempts to clear up some framework understandings and offers a glossary for interpretation in literary texts.
