Summary/Abstract: The paper is analysing endings in Nušić’s comedies through the review of Happy End convention such as triumph of youth over old, virtuous over vicious, righteous over unrighteous. The paper is also investigating formulas about established symetry (Frye’s scheme ABA). The diachronic approach to Nusic’s comedies has been applied – from the end of The Parlamentarian and crying Jevrem, until the triumph of negative humorous society in The Deceased. The paper will analyse the dinamic of Reader-response and redefine the meaning of the Comic in Nusic’s opus, through his autopoetic discourse and contemporary literary critic readings of comedies (cognitive criticism). The dramatic irony that emanates from Nusic’s laughter is accentuated being recognized as a special quality coming from Nusic’s complex janusian nature even when he appears to be innocent and well-meaning.
