Summary/Abstract: The author deals with the problem of the distribution of vowel jat and its reflexes in the language of Petar II Petrović Njegoš. The analysis looks at the relationship to modern standards, the relationship to the Montenegrin people's speeches, as well as the standard of literary language of that time with the objecive to determine how the linguistic expression of this poet fits into today's linguistic situation and to his time.
