The servitude for sewegare in the Furs de Valencia of King Jaume I: adapting Roman Law to environmental and urban development

Summary/Abstract: The Furs of Valencia, i.e. the legal text granted by Jaume I after the conquest of theKingdom of Valencia in 1238 are the paradigma of the Reception of Roman Law inEurope. The Furs regulate the sewage of this newly conquested Kingdom followingthe model established in D.43,23,1. The Laws and Privileges granted by Jaume I arethe legal response to the needs of reorganization of the urban space of the city ofValencia, in which a new Christian population is to be settled.Los Fueros de Valencia, texto legal que el Rey Jaime I da al Reino de Valencia trassu Reconquista cristiana en 1238 son un paradigma del fenómeno de Recepción delDerecho Romano en Europa. Encontramos en los Fueros la regulación sobre cloacas propuesta por el Monarca para el Reino recién conquistado a imagen de D.43,23,1. Fueros y Privilegios otorgados por Jaime I responden a las primeras necesidades dereorganización del espacio urbano de una ciudad recién conquistada que es necesarioocupar y colonizar por la población cristiana llegada de otros lugares que reemplacea los musulmanes.
