Summary/Abstract: The application of new media technologies introduces significant changes into the school system, not merely in terms of technical and technological accoutrements, but also in terms of teaching and learning processes. The primary goal of this paper is focused on research into changes which new media introduce into the school system, more specifically into the process of school learning. In accordance with the goal, the following research tasks have been defined: (1) a brief overview and analysis of research studies which attest to the changes in the learning process due to new media application; (2) recognition of benefits in the learning process derived from the influences of new media technologies. The results of a theoretical analysis suggest that there are changes in the school system, especially those which relate to the learning process, and they are reflected in the presence of new forms of learning. Although changes in the school system appear to be rather gradual and encounter numerous obstacles, the system of educational institutions is increasingly becoming a digital media environment. The analysis of results suggests a large number of learning benefits which are directly derived from new media. From the standpoint of the school system as a whole the most significant are those benefits relating to efficacy, cost-effectiveness, practicality, and standardisation. On the other hand, the results point to the benefits which are significant for every individual in the process of learning, and which relate to the quality of knowledge, diversity of information sources, the possibilities of individualised learning, as well as to an increased collaboration in learning, development of learning autonomy, etc. It has been concluded that changes in the learning process as a result of applying new media technologies are indisputable, as well as that there is a series of advantages offered by new forms of learning. It is recommended that new media be applied to a greater extent in the system of education by establishing the necessary infrastructure and by developing human resources.
