Summary/Abstract: The author presents a shaft-hole axe, dating to the Early Bronze Age, found by chance in the Valea Mare village, Runcu commune, Gorj county (in the northern part of Oltenia). The main characteristic of the axe is given by an entirely faceted surface of the piece. The author mentions also other Early Bronze Age faceted axes (and their contexts) discovered in Central Europe, Dalmatia and Transylvania. Thus, a chronological connexion can be established between axes of the Eschollbriicken type appearing in the context of the Corded ware potter)', the faceted ones of the Kozarac type - found on the Dalmatian coast and associated to the Vucedol culture-, with the cast for manufacturing faceted axes from Zok-Varhegy- also the VuCedol culture and the faceted axes of the Dumbrăvioara type from Transylvania - linked to the Jigodin group, also characterized by cord-decorated pottery. The suggested chronology is probably 2800-2600 BC. The Valea Mare axe typologically resembles those from the earlier series of Veselinovo and can be linked to the Glina culture. The relationship between the Glina culture and Jigodin group is defined through the pottery' of the Runcuri type, specific to the earlier phase of the Glina culture. This relationship also explains the appearance of this axe type in the area covered by the Glina culture.
