Summary/Abstract: The paper analyses three different cognitive theories of foreign language acquisition: Krashen’s Monitor Theory, Weinstein and Mayer’s Model and Anderson’s theory with a view to shedding some light on how learners acquire a foreign language. The theories analyze both grammar and vocabulary and the four skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking – in an attempt to understand certain theoretical concepts that can help teachers understand individual differences between language learners.
