Summary/Abstract: The Mauthausen concentration camp was one of the largest and most terrible sites of the killing of Czechs and Slovaks. The Nazi security apparatus sent individuals and groups there that it was unwilling to release from its clutches. In this manner, the Third Reich carried out the covert and brutal liquidation of its ideological opponents. The Czech nation paid a cruel tax at Mauthausen for its desire for freedom – because of a war it did not want and had not incited.
