Summary/Abstract: The focus of this article is the juridification of the public domain, which took place in Germany in the period of 16th-18th centuries. Juridification is perceived here as a manifestation of a certain ideology which shrouded, as it does currently, the need for bringing order to the state and the belief that this may be accomplished through the meticulous regulation of the public sphere. The constantly increasing number of provisions is presented by the public authorities as beneficial to the public good and, per facta concludentia, it is perceived as such by a wide circle of indoctrinated recipients.
