Summary/Abstract: The paper examines the complexity of phrase structure in children’s literature as opposed to literature aimed at adults, using Oto Oltvanyi’s short stories as the corpus. Complexity is expressed through the depth of the phrases and number of their constituents, as well as how densely populated by the phrases the texts themselves are. Both starting hypotheses have been confirmed – the literature for adults is more saturated by phrases, and they are of a more complex structure – both in their depth, and the number of their constituents.
