Summary/Abstract: This essay is the result of an attempt to answer several questions regarding different aspects of treating sevdalinka. Its relationship with other forms of lyrical expression was also part of the research. The latter is also one of the most difficult questions. The question should perhaps be focused on its relationship with the lyrical-narrative poem, and poetry created in the South-Slavic region (Dubrovnik and Dalmatia) and beyond, in European Turkey, i.e. Rumeliya, in Slavic languages and Ottoman script. It is an autonomous Bosniak and Bosniak Muslim lyrical poem – but is it just that? Strictly speaking in terms of genre, it is a lyrical poem established and developed in Bosnian cities starting from the late 15th century. By 16th century, it had already started to flourish and it continued until our times.
