Summary/Abstract: This paper interprets a flamenco piece The Language of Flowers first performed by Nadia Mazur’s FlamencoArte Theatre in November 2012. The article offers the reading of the F.G. Lorca’s play Doña Rosita the Spinster and shows how different aesthetic elements such as dance, singing, guitar play, theatrical signs convey artistic expression. The author attempts to evaluate the semiotic interplay of Lorca’s work and flamenco. She observes that Mazur’s choreography by no means simplifies the original text. Nor does it diminish the Andalusia of the early twentieth century in its socio-historical context. What is emphasized here is the artist’s idiosyncratic constant entanglement with flamenco. Finally, the article addresses Lorca’s own theoretical commentary.
