Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to describe specific aspects of the social network Facebook as a phenomenon of modern times. In assessing the direction of the issue the article summarizes the theoretical basis of advertising in the online environment, the issue of social media, and last but not least the narrower concept of social networking. The main attention of the article is focused on the social networking site Facebook as the most popular global social network and also vital marketing channel of communication from the perspective of existing social networks. Another aim of the article is to point out the current status of issues while pointing out their pitfalls.
