Summary/Abstract: Demographic development is characterized by pronounced depopulation, weakening demographic potential and aging of population. These resulted by increasing inbalances in the territorial distribution of population (drastically draining and fragmentation of rural settlements). Aim of this work is analysis of spatial distribution and age structure of population as a factor constraints of balanced development. Special attention is on the analysis of dispersion of population and settlements in altitude zones, and to research the causes and consequences of demographic emptying and quenching setelements of the municipality of Kursumlija.
