Summary/Abstract: Saddam Hussein, who was one of the most influential governers in the Middle East, maintained his presidency as the ruler of Iraqi people for more than two decades. Iraqi people were governed by incessant coups. While the coups were continuing perpetually, the Ba'ath Party overthrew the government of Abdusselam Arif in 1968, which made a new start for Iraq. Ahmad Hasan al-Bakr, who became the new governer, held power in Iraq along with Saddam Hussein by making him the second most empowered man in the country until the year of 1979. As of 1979, Saddam Hussein took over the control of the government and declared his presidency. His rulership ended in 2003, when Iraq was invaded by the USA and then a new era started in Iraq.
