Summary/Abstract: The paper pays attention on the social status of religion in Serbian society in transition. In the essence, the three basic ways of religion’s estimating and treating, which we will observe through the relations between state and church: the state accept the church as its ideological support or ally; the state is indifferent, treating it as a private matter; it acts directly or indirectly against the church. If we define the real state of religiosity, we can say that the second type offers the favorable conditions for easier finding out of „real situation“ for here can overlap the real religiosity and its manifesting. There where the church is an ally of state, there must not exist such overlap. The relation is opposite where exists the tension between the state and church. These two types of religiosity give the two types of individual attitudes, which are not rare: the type of the insincere believer and the insincere atheist. I want to emphasize that with the current changes in our society, the number of insincere atheist decreases while the number of insincere believers increases. This is important for the examining of the general population’s religiosity and the control samples in this research, devoted to the contemporary Protestant’s regional culture. The paper pays attention on the social status of particular religion – Adventism.
