Summary/Abstract: Essential changes like the end of Cold War and the collapse of communism in Eastern Bloc that took place especially in the last decades of 20th century, have caused revision of the concepts like sovereignty and security perception. In parallel with the developing sovereignty and changing security perception, the nation-state phenomenon has led to the definition of the borders to be made all over. It is seen that Macedonia is the state which faces this sensitive period with the least harm. In this painful era of Balkans United Nations aimed to end the instability and the conflicts and aimed to maintain peace and security and therefore held peacekeeping operations. The success of United Nations Preventive Deployment Force (UNPREDEP) in Macedonia, causes of the presence of UN in this region, methods used to reach the targets, preventive diplomacy the leading debate of UN, states that took place in this operation and the role they undertake, quality of the operation and whether it has been successful or not, have been analyzed in this study.
