Summary/Abstract: In biomedical engineering field there is a very important area dedicated to medical instruments. These instruments are used in almost all branches of medicine, taking into account the technological developments that in recent years have really accelerated. These medical devices are the results of research, development and innovation in interdisciplinary level in medicine and engineering. In engineering there are the work efforts of specialists from various fields of engineering, such as fine mechanics, medical electronics, optics, optometry, information technology, robotics etc. The paper presents an e-learning application dedicated to train the students in the field of fine mechanics and nanotechnologies. The application was build considered transferring knowledge related to the medical instruments used in laparoscopic surgery. This type of surgery is recognized as a result of technological development in the last 25 years. The application is divided into two sections: one dedicated to the laparoscopic instruments and second to the usability of these tools. In the first section, laparoscopic instruments are grouped in different category, such as light sources, telescopes, video cameras, monitors, systems insufflations, irrigation, aspiration systems, cautery systems, lasers, trocars, cannulae, instruments gripping forceps, scissors, retractors, suture instruments etc. For each category of instruments are presented the various variants and significant technical data, plus the advantages, the disadvantages and the situations of use. Students have thus the possibility to know the details of constructive and functional technological tools presented in the virtual environment and compare them with the tools they can study directly on the experimental stands of the university laboratory. In the second section of the app students can pursue various applications of laparoscopic instruments. These are grouped into different types of surgical instruments so that are used those presented in the first section. Finally, students are subjected to a test of knowledge about construction, operation and use of those instruments used in laparoscopic surgery.
