Summary/Abstract: As an integral part of material culture, handicraft in Shkodra has focused and harmonized customs and rites, religious beliefs, legends and traditions, characteristic houses, folk dance and costumes, standing firmly connected with the land where resides this compact population. Most of objects are works of art by hand. They are artistry that despite the changes and problems of the time, survive as art and as a value to be traded. This study includes years from 50s until today, but always referring to the tradition of the work of old goldsmiths, and heritage of this technique with motifs and symbols of the new era. Standing in its time limits, there will be cited social – cultural factors over these years. Thus, we started after liberation, in 1945, the year in which handicrafts takes new forms of organization, cooperates into handicrafts cooperatives, and later into artistic enterprises, which gathered the best craftsmen of the town, who, with their products, were able to compete in foreign markets.
