Summary/Abstract: As a member of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), with a participation quota of 96 million euros, to the banks capital, Romania is situated on the third place when considering the number of projects undertaken that have been financed by EBRD, after Russia and Poland, ERBD being an important financial investor in our country. EBRD has financed a considerable number of projects, in order to support the development of the private sector in different domains such as: infrastructure (transport, energy, utilities), telecommunications, finance sector, agriculture, industry and tourism. Through her strategies, EBRD seeks opportunities to become part of the investment funds that will invest in SMB’s sector from Romania and also try to become sustained financial investors for the small and medium business. The bank gives its partner banks, different methods for creating a more flexible way of crediting the SMB sector through the program Facilitating Financing for the SMB EBRD/EU. The SMB sector represents a strong constitutive element of EU’s character, this sector being in the last few ears the back bone of the economies of many EU countries. The experience of the European Union clearly demonstrates that the SMB sector can have substantial contribution to the GDP, create new places of work and stimulate the increase of exports.
