Summary/Abstract: The study is an analysis of the aging process of the population of Bistriţa-Năsăud County. Several indicators were taken into consideration, such as the share of young and elderly from the total population, the demographic dependence ratio, at the county level and on rural and urban areas, from 1997 tom 2006. The first signs of ageing were recorded in the 70’s, but the progress was differentiated in the following periods, being more accentuated in the rural areas.
