Small companies in the Świętokrzyskie Province as an example of civil initiative in employment

Summary/Abstract: This paper presents the development of small and medium sized businesses in the Świętokrzyskie Province. Their development was a response to the rapidly deteriorating situation on the labour market and economic in the Świętokrzyskie Province, particularly in its northern part. As a result of the restructuring of heavy industry, which dominated the northern part of the province, many factories were forced to lay off. Then, many people have decided to open their own business. Only in the south, ie. “agricultural” part of the province, there was no significant variation in the structure and the scale of unemployment. This resulted from the settled agricultural character of these areas, and the fact that the economic base of this area has always been small companies.
