The Admissibility of Single-member Constituencies in European Parliament Elections Act

Summary/Abstract: The authors consider the political and legal aspects of introducing single-member constituencies and the first-past-the-post voting method in elections to the European Parliament. Their main concern is its legal admissibility in the Polish legal system and the possible political benefits. The single-member constituencies are being proposed as a means to cope with the EU’s democratic deficit. Adoptinga more direct system of elections is also carefully analyzed in the context of the binding legislationand the case law of the Polish Constitutional Tribunal.
