Summary/Abstract: The article is an attempt to discuss the Environmental Justice – ecological justice as a new kind of normative justice. It aims to ensure every person with the right to the environment of good and due quality without any racial, linguistic or economic distinctions. The beginnings of Environmental Justice movement dates back to the seventies of the last century in the United States and New Zealand, where it was pointed out that the environmental burdens, such as land fills, were usually located in districts inhabited by the poorest members of a society. What is more, the access to environmental information as well as the popular participation in matters concerning environmental protection were very limited. Currently, the national, European and international legislation (Aarhus Convention) have introduced provisions on the assessment of the impact on the environment, on the access to information about the environment and popular participation in matters of environmental protection. Environmental Justice is slowly becoming the standard respected by modern law.
