Summary/Abstract: The name of the river Powa was first recorded in 1887. Previously the river was calledPokrzywnica (1294 Koprziwniczam) : pokrzywa/koprzywa ‘nettle’. The newer name Powais puzzling when it comes to its structural and semantic interpretation.
