Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the reports from the pilgrimages of the Catholics from the former FreePrelature of Pila (Roman Catholic Territorial Prelature of Schneidemühl), now living in Germany,to the shrine in Skrzatusz in the years 1983–1999. These memories were printed in thePrelature’s journal Johannesbote, issued since 1948. The content of the reports allows to discovernot only little-known stories of people driven from their homeland but also their struggleto build a new identity. Marian devotion, so clearly present at the pilgrimages to the shrine, plays a very important role in this process. Years after the breakthrough of 1989 opened thenew opportunities for the relations and for the building of the German-Polish reconciliation inthe Church community. The picture that emerges from the publication does not hide unpleasantthings but above all this is a testimony to the to the great pastoral work. The result of this workis a strong faith, joy and new insight into the difficult fate of the people during World War IIand in post-war history
