Summary/Abstract: Weighting on relationship between nationalism and transition, this article uses Benedict Anderson’s definition of nationalism. The latter enables value-neutral explanation of nationalism, which is uncommon in scientific analysis. This approach has methodological benefits in avoiding approval/disproval strategy toward nationalism or its segments. Pointing to explicit political cases and practices, the positive/negative effects of nationalism are displayed. Analyzing the status of nationalism in the globalised world, EU and Serbian post-communist transition, it reveals the degree of in/compatibility between these two phenomenon's, and an answer to the main question of this article. By examining Serbian reforms and the status of nationalism in Serbian transition, steep obstacles in harmonization/reconciliation between transition and nationalism are acknowledged.
