The celebration of 1975 international women’s day in the Bialostocki District (within the context of the main activities of the League of Women in the country and region)

Summary/Abstract: The League of Women in the Bialostocki District made its firstappearance in 1945, yet the organization was formally recognized inMarch 1946. The activities of the League conducted in the Podlaskie Voivodeship did not differ from those performed in the rest of the country and focused mainly on organizational, sanitation and hygiene, caring aswell as cultural and educational practices. Since the second half of the1950s, according to the guidelines of the board of the League of Women, the activities of the organization aimed at modernization of households and providing women with legal and family support. Some changes in thepractices of the organization occurred in 1975 which was proclaimed the International Women’s Year by the United Nations. Its exceptional significance was emphasized during the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the League. The organization expanded its services to theareas which had been less promoted before such as: popularizing the achievements of Communist Poland in strengthening the rights andposition of women in comparison to the situation in other countries of the Soviet Bloc. Women’s contribution to the development of the Podlaskie Voivodeship was strongly emphasized on the occasion of celebrating the International Women’s Year in the Bialostocki District, and the contemporary goals of the League included popularizing the role ofwomen in the liberation of Bialystok from German occupation.
