Summary/Abstract: The article discusses semantic and syntactic characteristics of deverbatives with zero formative in position next to the verb in academic writing in Polish and Russian languages. The primary function of deverbatives is making the structure of a simple sentence more complex by developing the subject-predicate perspective. Collocation of a verb noun and a verb with full semantic meaning leads to the polypredicative sentence and collocation of a verb noun with an auxiliary verb makes the analytic form of the main predicate.
