Summary/Abstract: The convergence of media, the growth of the multimedia and the digital revolution are key processes for understanding the radio evolution in the present culture of information society. These connected processes have paved the way for a radio renaissance. Under pressure from these factors, radio evolves from broadcasting to narrowcasting. Digital broadcasting enables far greater possibilities than the previous analogue system. High quality sound is one of the first advantages, together with increased number of channels, new multimedia services and possibilities for personal demands. New technology has changed the position of the radio overnight, from a dying radio to a popular radio. It also happened due to new qualities such as its multimedia potentials and interactivity. Radio is now available on a number of different platforms (Internet, digital TV and mobile phone.). Internet radio and podcast have held back distinctive characteristic of radio – intimate atmosphere. Although pessimists consider that radio will transform into “cultural waste land” because of growing commercialism, this attitude is countered by a variety of radio stations. Some of these radio stations enable their listeners to create programs, the others have podcast with very popular, but also high quality program.
