Summary/Abstract: Music education as a part of the school system has experienced huge changes during the last 10 years, what was caused by changes in technology, culture and economy. Radically changed media networks came to people’s homes letting international mass culture penetrate everyday life. Since Estonia’s independence the compulsory education system was offered for future citizens to enjoy and understand the music culture around them. That explains why music teachers’ education will face big challenges in the future. Can music teacher education meet the needs by modern school and society? This is one of the problems, which has been researched in a co-project of the University of Joensuu and the Estonian Academy of Music. The research analyses future music teachers’ conceptions on education, music and future work.
