Summary/Abstract: The Franco-German armistice on 22 June 1940, a compromise after the shock caused by the German occupation of France, is reflected in the diplomatic French and British documents which are the object of the current study. Left with no other solution, France had to capitulate. What the Franco-British meetings before the capitulation reflect is the impossibility of the allies to stop the German advance and the fact that the only military solutions found in that moment of crisis were a heroic resistance and, on the long term, the United States’ entry in the war
