OPTIONS FOR UPGRADING THE HEALTH INSURANCE SERVICES BY PROVIDING INTEGRATED HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARES AT HOME

Summary/Abstract: The present article addresses the issues stemming from the manner in which resources designated for healthcare in Bulgaria are spent. The emphasis is placed on the possibility for a significant reduction of expenses by introducing inte-grated social-health services in a home environment. The corollaries and the conclusion have been reached through the observation of foreign experience in that regard, as well as on the pilot project of the Bulgarian Red Cross, which is currently being applied in four municipalities of Vratsa region. In addition, this article also discusses the alterna-tive sources of financing Bulgarian healthcare, such as the healthcare insurance.
