Overcoming the refugee crisis in the EU from the point of view of German development policy

Summary/Abstract: The refugee crisis has become one of the most important topics on the EU’s and also Germany’s domestic political agenda. This paper analyses the contribution of the German development policy to deal with the growing influx of refugees from war zones and crisis areas into Europe.It deals with the question of the role of the development policy to forestall displacement. The German activities address three areas of intervention: tackling the root causes of displacement,supporting of refugees and stabilizing host regions. The analysis take look at – among others– an initiative launched by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) to Tackling the root causes of displacement, reintegrating refugees.
