Summary/Abstract: Finding a way to deal with the refugee situation is a matter of top priority for Germandevelopment policy. This paper analyses the contribution of the German developmentpolicy to dealing with the growing influx of refugees from war zones and crisis areas intoEurope. It deals with the question of the role of the development policy to forestall displacement.The German activities address three areas of intervention: tackling the rootcauses of displacement, supporting refugees and stabilising host regions. Among otherthings, the analysis takes a look at an initiative launched by the Federal Ministry for EconomicCooperation and Development (BMZ) Middle East Employment Drive.
